Rabbi Berman, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, earned her B.A. in Child Psychology and Jewish Studies from the University of Minnesota before entering the rabbinical program at Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion. Her studies took her from Jerusalem for her Year in Israel to Cincinnati and ultimately Los Angeles, where she was ordained in 2015. She also earned a Master’s degree in Education, further grounding her work in teaching, learning, and lifelong engagement with Jewish life.
During her training, Rabbi Berman served congregations in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and Piqua, Ohio, and completed chaplaincy work at Cleveland Clinic and UCLA Medical Center. Following ordination, she served as a visiting rabbi in Sherman, Texas, and later as rabbi of Temple Beth-El in Ormond Beach, Florida, where she worked with both Reform and Conservative communities.
Rabbi Berman is an active participant in the broader Reform Jewish community, including the Association of Reform Jewish Educators (ARJE) and Women of Reform Judaism (WRN), reflecting her commitment to learning, leadership, and connection across the movement.
At the heart of Rabbi Berman’s rabbinate is a deep belief in the power of connection—between people, to Jewish tradition, and to something greater than ourselves. She brings this philosophy to her work in worship, teaching, and pastoral care, helping individuals and families find meaning, belonging, and a modern voice within Jewish life.
Rabbi Berman lives in Howland with her husband, Jeffrey, and their sons, Micah, Gavi, and Zeke.
