The Sisterhood has played an integral role in the Temple since 1867, first named the Ladies’ Mite Society, then the Ladies’ Hebrew Benevolent Society. For over 157 years, the women of this congregation have been the backbone of its community life, catering and hospitality, musical support, and charitable work.
The Catering Committee prepares the meals for special events at the Temple, Bar and Bat Mitzvah celebrations, weddings, and other affairs. Sisterhood also supports the music programs and prepares Oneg Shabbat each week.
One of the most important functions of our Sisterhood is provided by the Mitzvah Committee, a group of women called upon following the death of a member of the congregation to provide the Meal of Consolation for the bereaved family. This sacred act of lovingkindness exemplifies the spirit of Sisterhood at its finest.
OBS also has an OBS Shop, a virtual gift shop partnering with popular Judaica websites, so you can have products shipped directly to your home. A portion of the proceeds goes directly to our Sisterhood. Visit the website to browse OBS swag, Judaica, stickers, and custom items.

YEAR-ROUND
Each week, Sisterhood prepares and hosts the Friday evening Oneg Shabbat, the warm, sweet reception that follows services and gives our congregation a chance to linger, connect, and celebrate the beginning of Shabbat together.
One of Sisterhood’s most sacred roles: the Mitzvah Committee is called upon following the death of a congregation member to provide the Meal of Consolation for the bereaved family, a deeply meaningful act of lovingkindness.
Sisterhood provides ongoing support for our congregation’s music programs, enriching the worship experience that is so central to the life of our community each Shabbat and throughout the holiday cycle.
Sisterhood partners with Brotherhood to organize the community-wide Purim carnival each year, a joyful, intergenerational celebration that brings the entire congregation together in festive holiday spirit.
Sisterhood operates the OBS Virtual Gift Shop, partnering with leading Judaica websites so members can shop for Judaica, OBS swag, and custom items with a portion of every sale benefiting Sisterhood directly.
